22.10.09 P.M

John gave us a bit of a presentation on Photoshop as it applies to the Pen Tool which is a very handy tool and can be used for a variety of different applications. I have also been continuing with the advertising assignment which I will finish over half term.

21.10.09 P.M

The past week I had some personal stuff that I had to sort out, mostly to do with the Landlord. The downside of which means that I was a bit behind on the last assignment but since no one else needed to hand in their Sketch Books today hopefully it wont go against me to much.
We have also been given our next assignment which is based around advertising on the side of buses, we need to come up with two adverts, in rough, by tomorrow morning. We were given a list of companies/organisations to pick from and I went for the Greenpeace.

12.10.09

Today we have been continuing the advertising assignment, specifically how using the same image but changing the text can totally change an adverts message. We were set a task to find an image of a product and by using different text change the age range the product could be aimed at, from 10-16yrs, 16-19yrs, 20-25yrs and 35-45yrs old. I chose the Technics 1210's and printed four identical posters but added four different TAG LINES.
Also, on a completely different subject there was a really good program on last night about Disney Pixar, it was most entertaining.

07.10.09

Having still not finished Poster One due to not having enough relevant imagery i have had to draw some of my own. I sketched out a couple of sign posts with the legends 'W.M.D's HERE, POSSIBLY' and 'MAYBE OVER HERE'. Hopefully these will add a comic aspect to my poster. There are still some images that I need and I plan to visit The Cowley Club this afternoon for some ASSET gathering, also I will go to the L.R.C.

06.10.09 - S.D.S

I went in to the Cowley Club on London road today knowing that a lot, or most of Brighton's Political Activists frequent the place and having also, in my time been to one or two of there partys that they like to put on. Unfortuanatly they shut at four o.clock but the lady I spoke to has been very helpfull, telling me to come back any time (during opening hours) to use there library or have a cup of Free Trade coffee. I want to go back tomorrow to gather some ASSETS i.e pictures of the war that I scan.

05.10.09 / A3 Poster

This afternoon I have composed the majority of the first of my A3 posters, I believe it is going to come out well in the end and I intend to spend some time in the L.R.C tonight so I can find the rest of the images that I need. I am going to sketch out some of the images so they will count towards the scanned images needed for the assignment.

I am becoming more comfortable with Photoshop but i am still finding some of the tools needlessly complicated i.e the Bezier tool which on Paint.Net is allot simpler to use.

05.10.09 / photoshop ethics

This morning myself, Rob, Alex and Arron had a discussion about the ethics of Photoshop. I think the main points made were that generally Photoshop is a force for good in that everyday people now have the ability to edit, manipulate and even design there own photos or artworks, and Artists have a very power full tool in there 'box'. Even the Hubble Telescope uses similar software to enhance pictures from deep in space.
The thing that worries us, and people in general is that journalists and such are able to use Photoshop to miss lead and even blatantly lie to the public. We think there needs to be some government regulations to keep these peoplr in cheack.

01.10.09 second post

After getting back my sketch book and having a lesson in using the scanner I have been doing research for my first A3 poster, The Ilegal War, but have not been able to do much. I need to shoot some photos and find the appropriate images in books or magazines over the weekend.

30.09.09

Today we learnt a bit about photography i.e 'what makes a good photo?'. This includes things like SCALE - the difference in size between images in your photo, SUBJECT MATTER - you want to try and take a photo that will make people think and also ANGLE, COLOR, DEPTH OF FIELD
which is everything behind and in front of the main focus of the photo.
We had an image of a soldier shaking hands with a child and, in groups, disscused what we thought made it a good image. We thought that it made us think because you wouldnt normaly see a soldier and a child together and also the difference in size between them i.e SCALE. There are also some locals in the backround which give it some DEPTH OF FIELD.
In the tutorials we disscused what qualities are needed to work well with others such as the ability to treat team members with respect, complete tasks given to you to the best of your ability and to have patience with your team.
